Newsletter
Selling Stock (www.selling-stock.com) is an on-line newsletter that provides daily news and analysis of developing stock photo industry trends.
The aim is to give photographers, archive and portal owners, and investment analysts the information they need to navigate the rapidly changing business of licensing image uses. The newsletter has closely followed the industry’s shift in emphasis from Rights Managed licensing to Royalty Free to Microstock and Subscription. Now we are also tracking the Crowdsourcing phenomena.
Over the past 10 to 15 years the digital revolution has dramatically changed the stock photography business, not only in how images are created, but in how they are marketed and licensed. Image use has exploded since 2000. But the number of images easily available for use has grown at an even faster pace. Prices have dropped significantly. There has been huge consolidation of stock agencies while at the same time new entrants keep popping up. To remain competitive producers and sellers must keep up with the developing trends, and deal with them in a proactive way.
